Rain

by Melissa Rose on January 21, 2010

If you’ve ever spent time in the desert, you’d know that a little rain is very welcomed.  The rain manages to bring hope to dry, wilting plants and to wash the visible dust  that seems to coat everything.

The problem with rain in the desert is that the area can’t handle a whole lot of it.  The earth is hard so when it pours, it doesn’t seep into the ground very quickly.  Probably doesn’t help that there aren’t a lot of drains along the roads to wash it into the sewers.  And desert people aren’t too swell at driving in the rain either.   When your annual precipitation is about 7 inches, you don’t get a whole lot of practice.

The massive storm from California that’s causing mudslides is now here in Arizona and the flash flood warnings have been beeping all day since we’re expected to get 2-4 inches of rain from the storm.

The "natural" pool on the side of my yard.

Okay, so it doesn’t look like much to many of you, but here’s the significance of this post:

That puddle lies between my back and side yards.  And my four mutts LOVE to run around to the side yard and bark at every person, animal, insect, leaf, rock, atoms, etc. that is on the other side of the fence.   But they also hate water (desert dogs) so they haven’t dared to wade through the natural pool to bark incessantly today.  This is good.

Since they don’t like water, they also don’t want to go outside to make.  Instead, they’d rather pee and poop on my kitchen floor.  Remember, I have four dogs.  And I’m out of paper towels.

So tonight, instead of working on some SEO  for Biz in a Boxx and writing articles for my new article writing gig at Examiner.com, I will be picking up crap off of my floor and washing it down with some Pinesol.

Success to you!

Melissa

You have summed up perfectly the dog/desert/rain phenomina. I,too, shall be picking up and cleaning souveniers from all over my white carpets. Hooray for the rain, but I can’t wait til its over!!

What a lovely portrait you paint of your kitchen and the outside landscaping. Obviously, Biz in a Boxx will have to take a second place priority to cleaning up.

I can appreciate your weather assessments as I, too, am of the desert persuasion.

I feel your pain. I have two big dogs and lots of mud. While we’re not in the desert, we’ve been getting lots of snow and the result is the same. Hope you see some relief soon.
